ARCH 4345/6345

This course will explore the role of the observational and speculative drawing in the formation of design ideas. Using small format drawing exercises, the class will consider the role of hand drawing in the creative process moving from observational drawing to highly speculative drawings over the course of the semester.

The work of other architects will be studied ( Aalto, LeCorbusier, Porzemparc, Gehry, Graves, Piano, Hadid, Scolari, for example) and the relation of drawing styles and techniques to their architectural work will be examined in an illustrated research paper.
